Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 is the North American release of Shutokou Battle 01 and the sequel to Genki's 1999 game Tokyo Xtreme Racer, 2000 game Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 and 2001 game Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Zero. The game had a limited release in North America but was not published in Europe unlike the series' previous episodes. This is the last game in the series to take place on Tokyo Highways. The later games for PlayStation 2 were Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift (prequel) and Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2 (sequel) and took place in the mountains of Japan.

Gameplay

Programming error

The North American version of TXR3 has an error which makes it impossible to face one of the rivals in Osaka through normal means. There is a wanderer named "Whirlwind Fanfare", who requires the player to have 100,000,000CP to face him. Since the player can only have a maximum of 99,999,990CP, you can't face him, and since "Whirlwind Fanfare" is one of the 600 wanderers required to beat to face the final boss, the game is unwinnable without the use of a GameShark. The Japanese version did not have this error.
